It’s Karneval! Or Fasching, depending on where you’re from. It’s Germany’s favorite festival season (similar to Mardi Gras), when the entire Western part of Germany goes nuts.
Cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf completely shut down for a week of partying, costumes, parades, lampooning politicians, exuberant drinking, and dancing in the street.
Rules may be rules in Germany – but during Karneval, all bets are off. Mischief is king, the fools and jesters rule. And one VERY important part of Karneval: the Büttenrede.
The Büttenrede:
Part stand-up, part satire — all roasting current events and human nature.
Karneval’s traditional Büttenrede comedy show takes hilarious aim at current events, politics, human nature, and everything that has happened during the year — to laugh away the madness.
Who better to deliver our Büttenrede than America’s German comedian Paco Erhard. Paco had us in absolute stitches with his 5-Step Guide to Being German — now he steps it up a notch.
