8th Annual Stop the Violence Cookout

The Stop The Violence Cookout is a local effort to create a safe, fun-filled space for families. This free event is our answer to the high cost of fairs and amusement parks while focusing on child-safety and well-being. It is funded through charitable donations to Streets of Paradise Inc., a non-profit organization. Inspired by the event’s mission, Sarasota’s Mayor named a day in its honor in its first year. “Stop the Violence Day” is a day to promote community-based solutions in what he described as a way to build “a mutual sense of responsibility in our neighborhood, our communities and nation.” The sitting Mayor has been an honored guest ever since. In 2018, its third year, the event saw 750 people attend. It is funded entirely by residents, businesses, and nonprofits and I invite you to be a part of this community-building day.  Activities will include face painting, kids games, dunk tank, rock painting and a non violence pledge, just to name a few. Organizations and community groups will be on site to educate residents about services and resources available to them. This is a FREE, family friendly event. All are welcome. There will also be a live band, Dj’s, poets, dancers, singers etc
